Tell your spouse to pick up some whale, seal, or reindeer meat on the way home for this one.
I had some trouble finding a detailed recipe for Suaasat online. The version I found was very simple. I ended up chucking everything into a crockpot, and it worked out quite well! Here’s the recipe I used:
Changes I Made
Obviously, I didn’t use whale or seal meat—I used lamb. It was quite oily, which is one of my few complaints about this stew.
I pulled some dried cherries from the back of our pantry, which was probably a bad idea. Next time, I’ll use a fresh package or eliminate them altogether. They were quite sour and chewy—again, probably a freshness problem.
Yes, I do have a vintage tablecloth with a map of Greenland on it! And to think I almost forgot to use it. What a shame that would have been.
I added a dozen homemade popovers for dipping.
This is a friendly reminder that it’s winter, so dinnertime is well after sunset. Sadly, all of my food photography is under a hideous fluorescent light. Forgive me.
